MOROCCO SAHARA JOURNEYS
Desert Journeys
Private and small-group Morocco desert tours through Erg Chebbi, Erg Chigaga, mountain valleys, and desert communities.
Our Sahara desert tours are designed around the landscapes, communities, and slower rhythm of the Sahara. Routes may include Erg Chebbi, Erg Chigaga, Atlas and Anti-Atlas valleys, kasbah regions, oasis towns, and locally chosen desert camps.
Rather than treating the desert as a quick overnight stop, these journeys make the road south part of the experience, with scenic drives, village encounters, mountain landscapes, and time to settle into the silence and scale of the Sahara.
ERG CHEBBI · ERG CHIGAGA
Two Distinct Sahara Experiences
Erg Chebbi
Morocco’s best-known dune region, with dramatic orange dunes rising directly from the desert edge. It works especially well for first-time visitors and travelers who want a classic Sahara experience with relatively easy access.
Erg Chigaga
More remote and reached partly by off-road tracks, Erg Chigaga feels wilder and less developed. The experience is defined as much by space, silence, and isolation as by the dunes themselves.
Both can be incorporated into longer Morocco itineraries, depending on your route, available time, and the kind of desert experience you prefer.

BEYOND THE DUNES
What you can experience
Traveling from Morocco’s imperial cities into the Sahara creates a natural change in pace. The route moves through mountain landscapes, cedar forests, Amazigh villages, kasbah valleys, and desert communities before reaching the dunes.
- Camel ride at sunrise or sunset
- Walking among the dunes
- Stargazing
- 4x4 desert excursions
- Desert camp evenings
- Music and conversation around the fire
Experiences vary by route and season, and none are treated as mandatory activities. The aim is to give travelers enough time and flexibility to experience the desert at a comfortable pace.

More Than the Sahara
The route into Morocco’s desert is part of what makes these journeys memorable. Depending on the itinerary, travelers may pass through the High Atlas, Dades and Todra valleys, kasbah routes, Amazigh villages, palm oases, and historic towns before reaching the dunes.
- High Atlas and mountain passes
- Dades and Todra landscapes
- Kasbahs and oasis valleys
- Amazigh villages and local communities
Who these journeys are for
- First-time visitors wanting a Sahara experience
- Couples looking for quiet and atmosphere
- Families seeking a shared adventure
- Photographers and landscape lovers
- Travelers who prefer slower, scenic routes
- Returning visitors wanting a deeper desert journey
These trips work especially well for travelers who want the desert to feel like part of a broader journey through southern Morocco, not just a single-night excursion.

02

How many days do i need for a Sahara tour from Marrakech?
Four to five days allows for a focused desert journey, while six to seven days provides a slower pace with more time for mountain valleys, villages, and cultural stops.
